Kiwanis - Serving the Children of the World
Serving the Children of the World

Kiwanis is over 100 years old internationally and 97 years old in Kankakee and has been grounded in service to the community since its inception. Children and service to them and organizations that serve them are our first priority.

We meet Monday noon at Tucci’s Restaurant, 1560 IL-50, Bourbonnais, part of the Northfield Square Mall Complex. Most meetings have a speaker presenting programs of community interest. Members attend as often as they can.

Complete the application for Kiwanis membership to join us as we strive to “improve the world one child and one community at a time”. We invest over $20,000 each year into the community from our Kiwanis Peanut Day Fundraiser. Here are activities besides meeting, enjoying lunch and selling peanuts. Please review highlights of our “active in the community” service club:

  1. Opportunity to network with key business leaders from the community. Promote self and other organization’s events to Kiwanis members. Opportunity to develop leadership skills through participating in Committees and Board of Directors. Participate in annual social activities for members and families/guests.
  2. Participate in many youth programs, including:
  3. Student Achievement awards presented to eighth grade students in Kankakee County
  4. Leadership & Arion/Sousa Music Awards presented at Kankakee County high schools
  5. College scholarships totaling $8,000 or more annually to county high school seniors
  6. Grant money to selected community organizations for their projects benefiting children
  7. Annual concert by Kankakee Valley Symphony Orchestra for 4th and 5th grade students in Kankakee County

Funds for the above projects come from peanut sales.

Each Kiwanian is asked to contact local businesses in the summer to purchase peanuts to achieve total contribution of $300 or more, and then work a street corner on September Peanut Day (or some earlier activity) for 3-4 hours.
